AFTERCARE CLEANING SOLUTIONS Packaged sterile saline is a gentle choice for piercing aftercare. Mixing your own sea salt solution is no longer a suggested practice. We strongly encourage you to use a sterile saline labelled for use as a wound wash. Contact lens saline, eye drops, and other saline products should never be used on a body piercing. Your saline ingredients should list .09% sodium chloride as the only ingredient. Mixing your own sea salt solution will commonly result in the product being far too salty and strong, this can over dehydrate the piercing and interfere with healing. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR BODY PIERCINGS WASH your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing for any reason. SALINE rinse as needed during healing. For certain placements it may be easier to apply using clean gauze saturated with saline solution. A brief rinse afterward will remove any residue. If your piercer suggests using soap, gently lather around the piercing and rinse as needed. Avoid using harsh soaps, or soaps with dyes, fragrances, or triclosan. RINSE thoroughly to remove all traces of the soap from the piercing. It is not necessary to rotate the jewellery through the piercing. DRY by gently patting with clean, disposable paper products because cloth towels can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelle ry, causing injury. WHAT IS NORMAL? Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising. During healing: some discoloration, itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that will form some crust on the jewellery. The tissue may tighten around the jewellery as it heals. Once healed: the jewellery may not move freely in the piercing; do not force it. If you fail to include cleaning your piercing as part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but smelly bodily secretions may accumulate. A piercing may seem healed before the healing process is complete. This is because tissue heals from the outside in, and although it feels fine, the interior remains fragile. Be patient, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period. Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, keep jewellery in - do not leave it empty. WHAT TO DO Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing; leave it alone except when cleaning. During healing it is not necessary to rotate your jewellery Exercise during healing is fine; listen to your body. Make sure your bedding is washed and changed regularly. Wear clean, comfortable, breathable clothing that protects your piercing while you are sleeping. Showers tend to be safer than taking baths, as bathtubs can harbour bacteria. If you bathe in a tub, clean it well before each use and rinse off your piercing when you get out. FOR PARTICULAR AREAS N AVEL: A hard, vented eye patch (sold at pharmacies) can be applied under tight clothing (such as nylon stockings) or secured using a length of elastic bandage around the body (to avoid irritation from adhesive). This can protect the area from restrictive clothing, excess irritation, and impact during physical activities such as contact sports. EAR/EAR CARTILAGE AND FACIAL: Use the t-shirt trick: Dress your pillow in a large, clean t-shirt and turn it nightly; one clean t-shirt provides four clean surfaces for sleeping. Maintain cleanliness of telephones, headphones, eyeglasses, helmets, hats, and anything that contacts the pierced area. Use caution when styling your hair and advise your stylist of a new or healing piercing. Return to your piercer for aftercare check-ups and downsize when requested. NIPPLES: The support of a tight cotton shirt or sports bra may provide protection and feel comfortable, especially for sleeping. GENITAL: Genital Piercings – especially Triangles, Prince Alberts, Ampallangs, and Apadravyas – can bleed freely for the first few days. Be prepared. Additional cleaning after urination is not necessary Wash your hands before touching on (or near) a healing piercing. In most cases you can engage in sexual activity as soon as you feel ready, but maintaining hygiene and avoiding trauma are vital; all sexual activities should be gentle during the healing period. Use barriers such as condoms, dental dams, and waterproof bandages, etc. to avoid contact with your partners’ body fluids, even in long-term monogamous relationships. Use clean, disposable barriers on sex toys. Use a new container of water-based lubricant; do not use saliva. After sex, an additional saline rinse is suggested. SURFACE ANCHORS: These piercings require maintenance during their entire lifetime because matter can build up underneath the threaded top causing the piercing to become irritated. Saline and/or shower rinses may be helpful with removing matter from underneath the threaded top. Avoid putting makeup on these piercings even after healing. Even with proper care, surface anchors may be less permanent than other body piercings. ORAL PIERCING : R inse thoroughly with Alcohol free mouth wash, (such as Corsodyl and CB12) including after meals. Downsize when requested and do not play with jewellery as this will cause irritation. Use a new soft-bristled toothbrush and store it in a clean area away from other toothbrushes. Brush your teeth and use your chosen rinse (saline or mouthwash) after every meal. During healing floss daily, and gently brush your teeth, tongue and jewellery. Once healed, brush the jewellery more thoroughly to avoid plaque build up. WHAT TO AVOID Avoid cleaning with alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, antibacterial soaps, iodine, or any harsh products, as these can damage cells. Also avoid ointments as they prevent necessary air circulation. Avoid Bactine®, pierced ear care solutions, and other products containing Benzalkonium Chloride (BZK). These can be irritating and are not intended for long-term wound care. Avoid over-cleaning. This can delay your healing and irritate your piercing. Avoid undue trauma such as friction from clothing, excessive motion of the area, playing with the jewellery, and vigorous cleaning. These activities can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration, prolonged healing, and other complications. Avoid all oral contact, rough play, and contact with others’ bodily fluids on or near your piercing during healing. Avoid stress and recreational drug use, including excessive caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. Avoid submerging the piercing in unhygienic bodies of water such as lakes, pools, hot tubs, etc. Or, protect your piercing using a waterproof wound sealant bandage. These are available at most drugstores and work best for nipple, navel, and surface piercing placements. Avoid all beauty and personal care products on or around the piercing including cosmetics, lotions, and sprays, etc. Don’t hang charms or any object from your jewellery until the piercing is fully healed. Sleeping directly on a healing cartilage piercing can cause irritation, even causing shifts in the piercing’s angle which may result in the piercing failing. Placing a travel pillow, on top of your pillow, and then placing your ear in the opening can be helpful to avoid this. ORAL PIERCING HINTS AND TIPS Sleep with your head elevated in the beginning to minimize overnight swelling. Once the swelling has subsided, it is vital to replace the original, longer jewellery with a shorter post or barbell to avoid damage to the teeth and gums. Because this necessary jewellery change often occurs during healing, it should be done by a qualified piercer. This information should have been given to you during the piercing. If not, consult with a professional piercer about your downsize . With clean hands or paper products, be sure to regularly check threaded ends on your jewellery for tightness. For threadless jewellery make sure there is no gap between the post (inside) to the top (outside). In case of a gap, place your index finger and thumb on both sides of the jewellery and press them together. Be sure to check that the gap is closed. Contact your piercer for a non-metallic jewellery alternative if your metal jewellery must be temporarily removed (such as for a medical procedure). Should you decide you no longer want the piercing, simply remove the jewellery or have a professional piercer remove it and continue cleaning the area until the hole closes. In most cases, only a small mark will remain. EATING Take your time with eating until you are used to the piercing and the jewellery is downsized to prevent irritation or prolonged healing. Avoid eating spicy, salty, acidic, or hot temperature foods or beverages for the first two weeks (no specific foods need to be avoided). Cold foods and beverages can be soothing and help reduce swelling. For labret (cheek and lip) piercings: be cautious about opening your mouth too wide as this can result in the jewellery catching on your teeth. WHAT TO AVOID Do not play with your jewellery. Long term effects include permanent damage to teeth and gums. Avoid undue trauma; excessive talking or playing with the jewellery can cause scar tissue, migration, and other complications. Avoid using mouthwash containing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. It can irritate the piercing and delay healing. Avoid oral sexual contact including wet kissing or oral sex during healing. Avoid chewing on tobacco, gum, fingernails, pencils, sunglasses, and other foreign objects that could harbour bacteria. Avoid sharing plates, cups, and eating utensils. Avoid using straws. Straw use can increase the risk of swelling and bleeding. Minimize the intake of smoking and vaping (tobacco or cannabis). It increases risks and prolongs healing time. Avoid aspirin, alcohol, and large amounts of caffeine as long as you are experiencing bleeding or swelling. Avoid submerging healing piercings in bodies of water such as lakes, pools, oceans, and even the bathtub. Each body is unique and healing times vary considerably. If you have any questions, please contact a professional piercer. Troubleshooting Problems INAPPROPRIATE AFTERCARE IS THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF A DISTRESSED PIERCING. What is normal? Tenderness, bleeding and/or bruising. A clear, yellow or whitish discharge, which may crust. What is not normal? Puss or thick discharge, that may look greenish. Excessively swollen and is hot to touch. PIERCING BUMPS. Most people assume the bump around their piercing is a keloid, however this is unlikely to be the case. Most bumps forming around piercings are caused by improper aftercare and irritation. WHAT CAUSES BUMPS? Piercing bumps are caused by a number of reasons, such as excessive or overly rough cleaning, knocking and accidentally snagging piercings, sleeping onto the piercing and either poor quality jewellery, or jewellery that is not correctly fitting. Applying ointments and creams can also irritate piercings, such as tea tree oil and savlon etc. WHAT IF MY PIERCING IS INFECTED? If you suspect you piercing is infected, you should visit your GP as soon as possible. Please refrain from removing the jewellery, as infections can be dealt with - without the loss of the piercing and removal could then cause an abscess. EXCESSIVE SWELLING Fresh piercings are done with jewellery that has allowed room for some initial swelling, however in some cases, if the piercing has experienced trauma such as being knocked or bumped, the piercing has become infected or irritated, swelling may begin to surpass the jewellery. In these cases, you will need to visit your piercer and have them fit a temporary, more accommodating length or diameter piece of jewellery. WHAT IF I CANT SEE A PIERCER - ADVICE For suspected infections, follow the above advise and go see a medical professional. For excessive swelling, if you do not have a safe alternative piece of jewellery to wear temporarily you may need to remove your jewellery altogether to reduce the risk of imbedding and your skin healing completely over the jewellery, which unfortunately may mean you lose your piercing. Your piercer may be able to taper it back open, when you can get into see them, it may need to be re-pierced. If you have lost your jewellery and need a replacement, book an appointment to have your piercer refit you the correct jewellery. WARRANTY As part of your purchase, permanent jewellery welded here at Jade Alexandra Piercing comes with a 30 day jump ring re-weld warranty from the date of purchase. If the item has broken and is outside the 30 days we are able to repair the chain if you still have it but a £10.00 re-weld fee will be required. We cannot be held responsible for lost or damaged jewellery. Please note: Direct contact with perfumes and other chemicals may cause jewellery to discolour or tarnish, it is best to avoid these things in the areas where permanent jewellery is worn. We recommend you give your permanent jewellery a clean every couple of weeks. If you need to remove your permanent jewellery, please cut the jump ring where it was welded. General household scissors can be used to remove your welded piece or alternatively you can return to us to have it removed.

Loose hair can interfere with the procedure and may contaminate freshly prepped skin, making it difficult and unsafe to work around. Food & Hydration Make sure you have eaten within the last four hours and are properly hydrated. Low blood sugar can sometimes cause clients to feel faint or unwell during a piercing. If you have felt faint during a piercing in the past, consider bringing a sugary snack with you. Timing & Holidays Think carefully about any upcoming holidays or events. If your plans could prevent you from maintaining proper aftercare - such as swimming, travelling, or long periods where cleaning will be difficult - it may be better to postpone your appointment until afterwards. Lifestyle Considerations Your lifestyle can affect how well your piercing heals. Consider the following: Do you swim regularly? Do you play contact or rough sports? Do you wear helmets, stethoscopes, face masks, or uniforms that could put pressure on the area? If any of these apply, it may be best to delay your piercing or book an anatomy consultation first. This allows us to discuss your lifestyle and highlight any concerns before you commit to the healing process. STUDIO ETIQUETTE We want everyone’s experience in the studio to be safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. To help us keep the space clean and respectful for all clients, please keep the following in mind: AT THE DESK OR IN WAITING AREA: Don’t handle your piercings (even if they are healed) or jewellery, Don't touch your ears and face etc as you may spread germs to the studio’s common areas, endangering staff and fellow patrons. Bring previously worn jewellery in a baggie or other sealed container; never place used jewellery on the counter/desk. IN THE RESTROOM: Don’t handle your piercings or jewellery (see above) It is never appropriate to insert jewellery in the restroom or other area of the studio. If you want to have your jewellery changed, it should be done by studio staff in the piercing room. IN THE PIERCING ROOM: Turn off your cell phone. Before setting anything down, ask your piercer to direct you to the area where personal belongings should be placed. Avoid touching your fresh piercing or the area that is near to your fresh piercing, it is an open wound and you may spread germs that are endangering to staff and fellow patrons. Camera flashes or recording can be very distracting to a practitioner during a piercing procedure, so no photos or recording is permitted in the piercing room, please wait until after your piercing is done and check with your piercer before you take any photos etc of your piercing. Thanks for taking the time to browse this page, hopefully we can answer any questions you may have here to make things a little more convenient and more time efficient. Do I need an appointment? Yes, you will certainly need an appointment, whether it's for a piercing, aftercare check up or to purchase and look at jewellery. Appointments can be booked easily and conveniently through the booking system on our website, or direct through the "book now" button on our Facebook page. Can I have my piercing or more frequently asked my nose pierced with a ring? We do not pierce noses and most piercings with rings for a number of reasons, but particularly due to the shape causing healing complications and general lack of stability for wound healing. Small rings can be very restrictive to healing tissue and any uneven pressure or distortions of tissue effecting the wound usually result in piercing bumps and hypertrophic scarring among other things. What methods of payment do you accept? We accept cash, debit or credit card and contactless payments including apple or google pay. We also accept Clearpay, if eligible. Do you use a needle or Gun? We use single use hypodermic needles only, we do not advocate the use of guns for piercing. Needles are designed to puncture the skin with little trauma, whereas a gun uses blunt force trauma to penetrate the tissue, forcing inappropriate styles and limited size of jewellery into the tissue at high speed. Not only that, guns cannot be sterilised in a medical grade autoclave after use and simply wiping the instrument down does not protect against the potential spreading of bloodborne pathogens. Do you offer refunds or returns? For hygiene reasons, no. All sales are final. Body jewellery cannot be exchanged once it has been fitted into your piercing or if you have not had it fitted at your appointment, it cannot be returned or exchanged once it has left the studio. Piercing procedures are not a refundable service, you can of course always change your mind after having a piercing and we are happy to assist you to safely remove the jewellery, however we cannot be expected to give refunds for a service properly provided. Do you pierce babies/infants? We do not pierce anyone under the age of 7. Not only is it morally and ethically wrong to pierce an infants ears against their will, infants and small children are still very much growing and developing anatomically. It is much better to wait until they have had the chance to be more anatomically developed, cosmetic piercing can be more well placed etc. We will not pierce anyone who is unable to give us their consent and we respect every individuals bodily autonomy regardless of age. Can I bring my own jewellery? We do not pierce with or fit jewellery into existing piercings that have been sourced outside studio. We must ensure we work with verifiable materials and we cannot ensure jewellery purchased outside studio is safe or suitable for human implant. We cannot reuse Jewellery previously purchased in studio into fresh piercings, as we cannot sterilize previously worn or soiled jewellery and risk contamination to our sterilization equipment. When can I change my jewellery? We do not recommend you change or remove your jewellery yourself until healed. However your piercer may be able to change attachments. Do I need an anatomy consultation? Some piercings are not anatomically suited to everyone, particularly "industrial" and "navel" piercings, so it would be advisable to those considering these particular placements to book an anatomy consultation, prior to booking a slot for the actual piercing, as this will prevent time being wasted if you are turned down for the placement. Anatomy consultations are also advisable to anyone who has had surgery, has scarring, past trauma etc in the area they wish to be pierced or those with uniquely shaped anatomy for advise. Do not book a piercing appointment for the same day as an anatomy consult, please book your piercing after you have had your consult, as it would be counter-productive to book both at the time. I have had a piercing done at another establishment & I have concerns, can I come in for a check up? If your piercing was not done by us, you would need to book a troubleshooting appointment and pay a small fee for our time and expertise, we would certainly be happy to take a look and advise, aftercare check up appointments are a routine service we offer to our piercees to utilise as part of their piercing package free of charge. It would be unfair to deal with issues from piercings we did not originally preform. Do you offer numbing? No we don’t offer numbing and we don’t recommend you attempt any personal numbing at home before your appointment either. Numbing products are medical products and do pose risks in terms of allergens, skin irritations and vasoconstriction. Vasoconstriction is the narrowing (constriction) of blood vessels by small muscles in their walls. When blood vessels constrict, blood flow is slowed or blocked“ which is harmful to a new piercing because healthy blood flow for delivery of white blood cells are needed to start the healing process. How many piercings can I have done in one sitting? We do not recommend you have any more than three at any one time, with the exception of four ear lobe piercings. We will not do more than 3 cartilage, body, or facial piercings or any combination of them in a quantity of more than 3. We recommend waiting at least 12 weeks in between appointments to allow for the initial swelling and tenderness to pass before having more work done to make after care manageable and mitigate infection risk. You cannot waive your rights and ask to be pierced more times than this, as we always maintain the right to set safe boundaries on the procedures we perform. What prices can I expect? The service charge for a single piercing is between £15 - £30. This covers the cost of completely Sterile and Single use procedure set up, appointment time, sterilization, topical skin prep & in store consultation. As we only stock premium jewellery, jewellery purchases are not included in the service charge and can be anywhere from £20 - to over £300, depending on pieces and customization of the components chosen on the day. We stock Titanium, both 14Carat and 18Carat Gold, Swarovski Zirconia, Semi Precious Stones, Emeralds, Diamonds etc. Basic jewellery components from our essentials range is plain, highly polished to a mirror finish ASTM F-136 or ASTM F-1295 Titanium. Downsizes are charged at £15. Jewellery changes are charged at £6 Aftercare products range from £8-£12 Is your studio Wheelchair accessible? The Studio is street level and whilst we are situated on the ground floor for piercing services, unfortunately there is two steps prior to the front door to access the building. The street outside is cobbled and wheelchair users or those with limited mobility may find it difficult to attempt access. Apologies. Where can I park? There is on street parking outside the studio which is subject to pay and display. There are also near by multi storey car parks: Riverside and Prince Bishops. Alternatively, we are right next to the City centre bus station on North Road, if public travel is easier. Do you sell gift certificates? Yes, we sell egift cards, which can be customized and purchased online via our Online-Store. We also sell physical eco friendly plastic gift cards in studio with the optional addition of premium giftbox with magnetic clasp and gift bag for those of you that would like to add a touch of luxury to presentation when gifting their loved ones or to make it easier to wrap for those special occasions. My piercing has closed up can I have it re-pierced? Yes, in most cases piercings can be re-pierced. As long as healed and healthy tissue is available piercings should be ok to be pierced again. We do not take responsibility for piercings closing over, if your piercing has closed over, you are responsible for paying for it to be pierced again. Re-pierces will not be discounted. It is the piercee's responsibility to ensure jewellery and attachments are secure and that jewellery remain in the piercing to ensure it does not close over, even healed piercings should continue to have jewellery installed. Who can bring a child for a piercing? For any piercing on a child under 16, only a parent or legal guardian may bring them in and give consent. This is a legal requirement — not just studio policy. We cannot accept consent from grandparents, siblings, aunties, uncles, family friends, or anyone else. If you're not the child’s parent or legal guardian, we won't be able to carry out the piercing, even with a handwritten note or phone call. We understand this can be frustrating, but it's essential for your child's safety and for legal protection on both sides. What do I need to bring? You’ll need to bring: Your own photo ID (to prove you're the parent or legal guardian) Proof of the child’s age (passport, birth certificate, or official document with name and DOB)

Sterilisation & Processing Body Jewellery and piercing equipment are sterilised in Medical grade Autoclaves, which are tested daily onsite. Everything is sterilised after first being cleaned thoroughly in designated ultrasonic cleaning machines. Sterilised Jewellery and equipment are stored in sealed pouches or are transported into the procedure room via portable tray directly from our autoclaves. Piercing consumables and procedure technique We use some of the highest quality hypodermic needles available to the industry, made specifically for piercing which is single-use and discarded of immediately after piercing. We use a disposable set-up, with no expense spared - meaning all other procedure consumables, such as gauze, skin marking implements, dressings, cotton swabs and topical skin prep packs such as chlorhexidine, iodine and saline swabs are all completely sterile and single-use. Piercings are performed using an aseptic technique, meaning we do not touch anything that is outside of the sterile field and have implemented things such as a no-touch bin, hydraulic foot-operated bed, hands-free wash basins and sterilisers uniquely equipped with portable tray so asepsis can be maintained throughout. The studio is equipped with UV sterilisers on every floor. Our piercing procedure room has the added benefit of HEPA air filtration, as does our dedicated sterilization and processing room. Ensuring our facilities provide the safest and cleanest possible environment to be pierced in.
